Since the ‘70’s, Baja has been one of the leading design teams at CPP
What is BAJA SAE?
Design.
Designed in-house by Cal Poly Pomona Students. Bronco Racing creates opportunities for engineering students to gain real-world design experience.
Build.
Built in-house and in collaboration with our sponsors. The Bronco Racing Baja car is a platform for engineering students to research, create, and learn manufacturing processes.
Compete.
Bronco Racing competes annually in SAE competitions versus over a hundred other BAJA teams.
Baja SAE is an intercollegiate engineering design competition for undergraduate and graduate students organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The object of the competition is to simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Each team is competing to have its design accepted for manufacturing by a fictitious firm. The students must function as a team to design, build, test, promote, and compete with their vehicle within the limits of the rules. They must also generate financial support for the project, all while managing their educational priorities.

A 1967 Ford Custom. Formerly a Yellow Cab Tax, or 3 of them, modified by Cal Poly Pomona students to compete as an off-road race vehicle for the Baja 500. Powered by a 250+ hp Ford 300 inline 6, the taxi was elevated from its original purpose of hauling passengers around Southern California to built racecar ready to haul through Baja California in the 1971 NORA 500.
